The luxury brand AGNESTOTH was established in 2017 in Budapest, under the direction of internationally acclaimed, award winning fine artist Agnes Toth.
The mission of our atelier is to create contemporary embroidered handbags and beautifully stitched accessories, focusing on intricate needlework, exquisite craftmanship and supreme savoir-faire. Creating one-of-a-kind handbags of the highest standard.
Heritage & Tradition
Our passion for embroidery and traditional needlework date back to the 1780’s of rural Hungary.
Working with textiles is deeply rooted in our family history, where six generations of skilled women with incredibly talented hands practised and passed on the traditional crafts of weaving, spinning and embroidery.
Our love for hungarian folklore and traditional embroidery will always echo in our creations, but as modern citizens we constantly look for contemporary solutions, with the aim to redefine luxury and incorporate innovation.
We are often inspired by our beautiful city Budapest, we elaborate pieces that revive the Golden Age of the Capital city, its history, its decorative ornaments, art nouveau tiles, folklore and the glamour of an era that made the city what it is today, an unrefined gem in the heart of Europe.
Art & Sustainability
The embroidered handbags are entirely fine art pieces. They are created in-house at our Budapest Studio with upmost attention to detail and quality. We believe in the process of slow, small scale and sustainable. Our products are made locally and are rare, one-of-a-kind and cruelty free pieces. We use sustainable materials such as leather made of apples and recycled threads. Luxury cannot get greener or more exclusive.
The Artist
The founder Agnes Toth is a Hungarian-British contemporary artist trained as a professional painter in Budapest and in Cornwall, UK. Her dedication to merging fine art and embroidery resulted in a new approach where tradition and heritage meets with innovation and the most modern technologies.
Over the past years, she has developed a unique technique and design process, which has made her the first person in the world to use embroidery in such a specific way, applied on fashion accessories; creating artworks with threads.
In her work the love of embroidery, the complexity of the design, beauty of the threads and the perfection of stitches merges with her determination to create the finest pieces.
